We have received confirmation from Peterborough Public Health that the new limits of 25 person gatherings DON'T apply to this weekend's Ankle Breaker races. The Ankle Breaker will continued as planned with covid protocols in place and with the 100 person limit in effect. - Sept. 21, 2020.

In order to stay under the government mandated 100 person limit we will run 2 completely seperate waves. (Please Note: The numbers don't justify a second wave so we are doing 1 wave at 9:30am only, Open. The 12:30pm wave is cancelled.)
THE COURSE: 2.5km circuit in the Nicholls Oval area -  5k is 2 loops.
9:30am 5k wave for runners that will complete a road 5k in under 23min. Wave is limited to 60 people
9:33am 2.5k kids run. Wave is limited to 40 people. Parents can run with their kids. 
12:30pm 5k wave for runners that will complete a road 5k in over 23min. Wave is limited to 100 people (Please Note: The numbers don't justify a second wave so we are doing 1 wave at 9:30am only, Open. The 12:30pm wave is cancelled.)

Covid Protocols

Peterborough Public Health and the City of Peterborough has helped us put these protocols in place, please respect them so we can continue to put on events throughout the pandemic, safely.
Each waved will be limited to 100 participants in order to stay under the government mandated limit. The first adult wave (under 23min) and the kids wave will be considered 1 wave so 2 races combined will not exceed 100.  (Please Note: The numbers don't justify a second wave so we are doing 1 wave at 9:30am only, Open. The 12:30pm wave is cancelled.)
No spectators allowed for the 5k races.
1 parent/guardian for each kid in the kids 2.5k. A parent can run with the kid. 

Covid restrictions mean:
-there will be no aid stations set up in the registration area. Please come fully prepared to be self sufficient throughout the race, pre and post.
-no post race food or beverage
-no awards ceremony
-no swag
-lots of extra room in the event area for physical distancing
-covid screening upon arrival
-hand sanitizer upon arrival
-extra room in parking
-limited field to 100 participants
-no spectators please (except the kids race), leave the family at home for this one
-no bibs (just ankle timing chip)
-the only interaction with staff/volunteers will be from 2m away ensuring you pick up your correct timing chip. 

Upon arrival you will be screened for covid. You will be asked the following questions and must hand sanitize. 
Covid screening protocol will be the questions below:
1. Did you travel outside of Canada in the past 14 days?
2. Have you tested positive for COVID-19?
3. Have you had close contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19
case?
4. Have you had close contact with a person with acute respiratory
illness who has been outside Canada in the past 14 days?
5. Do you have any of the following symptoms? Say yes if applicable.
• Fever
• New onset of cough
• Worsening chronic cough
• Shortness of breath
• Difficulty breathing
• Sore throat
• Difficulty swallowing
• Decrease of loss of sense of taste or smell • Chills • Headaches •
Unexplained fatigue/muscle aches • Nausea/vomiting, diarrhea,
abdominal pain • Pink eye • Runny nose or nasal congestion without
other known cause

If response to ALL of the screening questions is NO:
COVID Screen Negative

If response to ANY of the screening questions is YES:
COVID Screen Positive which means you must leave immediately.

Starting Grid

Runners will space 2m apart from all other runners on the starting grid. Orange dots will be painted on the grass and you must start on one of the dots, similar to the picture above. Please seed yourself accordingly. Masks aren't required.

Races & Fees

  • 5K (2 laps): $30
  • 2.5K (1 lap): $15

The course is suitable for spikes (if you choose to wear them) but keep in mind there are a few short sections (under 5m) that have pavement crossings. The course is completely on grass and trail. The trail is not technical but there might a few sections where you choose to slow down. The course is completely marked with tape and flags.

9:30am start for 5k runners under 23min. (limit 60 runners)
9:33am start for 2.5k kids run (limit 40 runners)
12:30pm start for 5k runners over 23min. (limit 100 runners) (Please Note: The numbers don't justify a second wave so we are doing 1 wave at 9:30am only, Open. The 12:30pm wave is cancelled.)

Where can I park?

There is plenty of onsite parking

Are there washrooms on site?

Yes. Washrooms will be cleaned by the City between waves. 

What time should I arrive?

About 1 hour prior to race time. You need to park, pick up your timing chip, use facilities, listen to pre-race instructions, and warm up. Time will fly by.

Where should I leave my belongings when I race?

The parking lot is close enough for you to leave all belongings, especially valuables in your car. Once you are finished your run, its close enough to retrieve anything you may need. Please note: there is no secure place for you to keep your belongings at the race site. Organizers are not responsible for your belongings.

Will this event be timed?

Yes, this is a chip timed event.
