The Gettysburg Blue-Gray Half Marathon is thrilled to support the charitable work of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue by waiving the race entry fee for participants who fundraise for these worthy causes. The first 20 people who fundraise a minimum of $250 will get a free half marathon entry and the first 20 people to fundraise at least $100 will earn a free Gateway 5K entry.

For more than 67 years, Paralyzed Veterans of America has been on a mission to change lives and build brighter futures for our seriously injured heroes - to empower these brave men and women with what they need to achieve the things they fought for: freedom and independence.

Paralyzed Veterans of America delivers services to members, veterans, and disabled Americans FREE of charge. Whether it's fighting for quality health care and decent benefits for all who served, providing opportunities to get back into life through adaptive sports, helping veterans with disabilities get good jobs and careers, advancing a barrier-free America, educating clinicians about spinal cord injury/dysfunction, or investing in a cure for paralysis, Paralyzed Veterans leads the way in empowering people with disabilities with everything they need to live full and productive lives

We are not a Zoo. We are a small non-profit organization, that gives forever homes to exotic animals that have been displaced. All due to old age, lab retiring, zoo surplus, or pet trade. While our habitats are not at all what our animals deserve, each animal has a life upgrade by coming here. 1. No more fairs in small cages, no more lab experiments in tiny cages with no toys or enrichment. No more inadequate feeding, lack of attention or poor diet. Our greatest desire is to improve the quality of life for each furry family member and provide a lifetime of care. We provide care through all stages of life. You will see young animals and our senior family members with arthritis, ailments, and would not be considered good exhibits. To us it is part of the cycle of life, at each stage they get the support and care needed. They are not exhibits, they are family. Each are receiving great vet care by multiple vets. Many are on some type of medication. Money that is donated or raised does not go to Safari Rides or air-conditioned souvenir shop or dining facility, it goes to the animal’s wellbeing and care. It may decrease your enjoyment if you do not understand this. Our greatest wish is that one day all exotics would be wild, safe and free and we would no longer be needed!
