Featuring 7 major climbs, each is rewarded with a fast downhill drop. About 1/3 is single track with the course going by Trout Brook, around sinkholes, next to ledges, valleys and several scenic vista lookouts. Do not attempt this unless in tip, top shape.
STONE BRIDGE CAVEMAN 15K EXTREME SNOWSHOE RACENatural Stone Bridge and Caves Park continues to expand the DION WMAC Snowshoe Series with the 15K EXTREME race. This one requires full fitness to survive the multiple climbs and descents over the beautiful park property. Runners with enjoy views of Trout Brook, views of the southern Adirondacks from the top of Catamount and side of Green Hill, navigating through dark hemlock forest groves, around sinkholes, next to climbing ledges and even cartoons from Gary Larson on "The Far Side Trail".
The facilities are somewhat rustic during the winter. There is a pavilion with propane heater, picnic tables, port-o-potty, bon-fire (with iron forged grill baskets to cook meats - bring your own), marshmallows/sticks, bottled water (also at several locations along the course - free) and a small gift shop available on site. All participants are invited to hike the Stone Bridge Cave Loop Trail after the race to view the LARGEST Cave Entrance in the East and frozen waterfalls (located next to the race start/finish).
