The Brushy Mountain 5K Run-Walk is part of the Jonesville Jubilee in historic Jonesville, NC. On the first weekend in May, we celebrate our history & heritage as an early NC settlement with music, a 5K run/walk, crafts, exhibits, sky divers & fireworks. Proceeds will benefit completion of THE VETERANS MEMORIAL in Mineral Springs Park
The Brushy Mountain 5K literally follows 200+ years of history and heritage through North Carolina's Yadkin Valley. Nestled between the historic Brushy Mountains and the Blue Ridge foothills, Jonesville was an early crossroad of wilderness trails and trading routes followed by colonists, trappers or secretive hide-aways for escaping slaves. Called Allen's Settlement in the 1700s, patriots marched through Jonesville, en route to Kings Mountain to defeat the British. Later, Revolutionary troops were garrisoned along our bluffs to watch for Red Coats encroaching up the Yadkin River.
In honor of those early troops and all from the Tri-Counties who have since served, our Veterans Memorial in historic Mineral Springs Park will soon contain over 3000 names of these men and women.
Packets may be picked up at 8 am at the Yadkin Valley Senior Center. Race begins promptly at 9 am on May 3!
Bibs should be pinned to front of shirt.
Runners/walkers and sponsors are invited to an Open House at Brushy Mountain Winery, 125 W. Main Street, Elkin, on Friday, May 2 between 5-8 pm. Our host will provide finger food and local music. Specialty wines and (age-appropriate) beverages will be available.
Special hotel rates for the Jubilee and Brushy Mountain 5K will be offered at two local hotels: Call Comfort Inn (336-835-9400) or Best Western Yadkin Valley Suites (336-835-6000) directly for special weekend rates!
The race route is certified. It will begin and end at Lila Swaim Park. Route will close approximately 10 am. Awards will be presented at the Park Bandstand.
Starting and timing will be managed by Go Sports Timing.
Awards will be presented to the top three finishers (runners) for men and women and for the top three men and women in each age group.
Age groups for awards are: Runners - 12-15, 16-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-64, 65+
Awards will be presented to the top 5 walkers (no age groupings).
Proceeds from the Brushy Mountain 5K Run/Walk will be used to support this Memorial.
